Mike Regenstreif & Arlo Guthrie (1996)

Arlo Guthrie – who is now 79 years old – is the son of legendary folksinger and songwriter Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, who was a Martha Graham dancer. His career as a recording artist began in 1967 with the release of the original recorded version of Alice’s Restaurant. That led to a long career as a concert artist and to his starring in a feature film version of Alice’s Restaurant. I first met Arlo in the 1970s when his Montreal concerts – often in tandem with Pete Seeger – were presented by my friend and mentor Sam Gesser. When Arlo returned to Montreal in 1996, I produced the concert. Arlo announced his retirement from touring in 2020 but still keeps in touch with friends and fans online.

Theme: Remembering Kate Wolf (1942-1986).

Kate Wolf was a very fine singer and songwriter, and folk music activist, who died of leukemia on December 10, 1986, about six weeks before she would have turned 45. Although her career as a touring and recording artist was relatively brief, Kate was, in her time, and to this day, a highly influential artist.

Part 2 – Remembering Paul Siebel (1937-2022). Paul Siebel was a great singer and songwriter who made just two studio albums, Woodsmoke and Oranges, released in 1970, and Jack-Knife Gypsy, released in 1971. He performed intermittently in the 1970s and then walked away from the music business. Paul died on April 5th, at age 84, from pulmonary fibrosis.
