Stan Rogers was already one of Canada’s greatest folksingers and songwriters when he died tragically at the young age of 33 on June 2, 1983 in a fire on an Air Canada flight.
Stan was a good friend of mine. We met at the Mariposa Folk Festival in 1975 and I booked his first Montreal concerts at The Golem, the folk club I ran in the 1970s and ‘80s, for January of 1976, on what turned out to be the coldest weekend in years in Montreal. Stan’s final concerts in Montreal were at the Golem in November of 1982. He was scheduled to return in September of 1983.
