In her songs, “April the 14th (Part 1)” and “Ruination Day (Part 2),” Gillian Welch reminded us that the shooting of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, and Black Sunday, the biggest dust storm of the Depression-era Dust Bowl in 1935, all occurred on April 14.

Part 2 – Songs of Dave Carter (1952-2002)

Dave Carter was a very fine singer and songwriter who died suddenly of a massive heart attack on July 19, 2002, less than a month before he would have turned 50. Dave was in his mid-40s when he teamed up with fiddler and singer Tracy Grammer to form a duo that took the folk music world by storm.

Canadian Spaces – CKCU – Saturday September 17, 2022


Canadian Spaces on CKCU in Ottawa is Canada’s longest-running folk music radio program. It is heard Saturday mornings from 10:00 am until noon (Eastern time). 

It was hosted for more than 33 years by the late Chopper McKinnon and is now hosted by Chris White and a rotating cast of co-hosts.
