– who was born in Grenfell, New South Wales, Australia in 1867 and died in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1922 at age 55 – is widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest writers. Many of his poems have been set to music by a variety of artists.

Theme: The Legacy of Lead Belly.


Lead Belly
– whose real name was Huddie Ledbetter – was one of the most important and influential blues and folk singers of all time. Lead Belly was born in Louisiana in 1888 or 1889 and died in 1949 at age 60 or 61. Lead Belly was known as the King of the 12-String Guitar, and he recorded and performed prolifically in the 1930s and ‘40s, Many of his  songs – both songs he wrote – and many traditional songs he adapted, have been recorded and sung by countless artists. 

This show includes some of Lead Belly’s recordings, versions of songs from his repertoire by many other artists, and a couple of tribute songs to him.

Louis Prima
was born in New Orleans in 1910 to an Italian immigrant family and died there in 1978 at age 67. He was a trumpet player, singer and band leader who got his start playing traditional jazz in New Orleans in the 1920s and went on to a 50-year career. The show includes some of Louis Prima’s recordings as well as versions of songs from his repertoire played by other artists.
